Previously, Michael was a litigator for several years in the New York office of Skadden, Arps where he handled a variety of complex securities, corporate, business, accounting, and insurance litigations as well as investigations, international mediations, and regulatory matters. Prior to that, Michael served as a federal law clerk to Judge Eugene E. Siler, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit where he earned a Distinguished Service Award. Michael also interned at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky, working primarily on criminal matters.
In addition to complex commercial and business litigation, Michael has significant experience in representing clients in serious tort or personal injury cases, including motor vehicle accident and inadequate security/premises liability cases. Michael was the lead attorney in a case for a client who won a motion for summary judgment on liability in an inadequate security/premises liability claim. The victory was affirmed on appeal and resulted in a significant settlement for the firm’s client.
Michael grew up in Lexington, Kentucky and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law where he graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif. He also served as technical editor of the Kentucky Law Journal. While in law school, Michael earned Academic Excellence Scholarships in his second and third years, American Jurisprudence Awards in Business Associations and Evidence, and the Oexmann Criminal Law Award. He was also a member of the NTC National Trial Team.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in architecture as a Carlson-Duchen Scholar from the University of Virginia.
