Firm Summary

Laura is a corporate/commercial lawyer in Toronto with a reputation for performing quality work and innovative thinking. As a member of the firm’s Emerging Technology group, Laura advises clients regarding formation, governance, financings, acquisitions, exits, and commercial contracts.

Laura was hired as a student in 2007, became an associate in 2009 and joined the partnership in 2016. Prior to October 2017, she was engaged in a broad corporate/commercial practice and was involved in corporate finance transactions for both public and private companies, as well as corporate reorganizations, corporate governance matters and preparation of continuous disclosure materials. In addition, she acted as a consulting editor for LexisNexis’ annual consolidations of the Canada Business Corporations Act and the Business Corporations Act (Ontario).

Laura has participated in three secondments during her time at Fasken. In 2007, she spent one month as a summer student at the Ontario Telemedicine Network. In 2010, she participated in a six-month secondment to Ford Credit Canada Limited where she worked with its general counsel on a variety of legal matters. From October 2017 to March 2020, Laura was seconded to the firm’s innovation team where she played a pivotal role in its growth.

Prior to law school, Laura completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Waterloo (Honours Science and Business/Biology – Economics Minor – Co-operative Program) and spent time as a computer lab trainer for faculty/staff at Humber College, a computer science lab instructor at the University of Waterloo and a software project coordinator at BlackBerry.

In 2020, Laura decided to combine her science, technology, business law and innovation background to focus on serving the emerging technology industry. Laura has extensive experience working with companies that are spinning out of academic institutions, incubators and accelerators and working with founders who have an idea and want to start funding their idea. Laura is often a first point of contact for Emerging Technology group clients and a sounding board/knowledge management advisor for colleagues internally.

Outside of work, Laura enjoys combining learning and water activities (e.g., reading in hot tubs; listening to podcasts while out on her paddleboard). She also enjoys playing bomb defusal and minigolf games in virtual reality.
