Firm Summary
Jim Robinson is a Texas lawyer and founder of Robinson & Associates, PLLC, a law firm with national and international reach, helping businesses in capital formation, acquisitions, funding, organization and management.
Jim is from an old, prominent and well respected South Texas family with long time connections to the legal profession. His ancestors emigrated to the Republic of Texas in the early nineteenth century, settling in Fort Worth, Graham, Wichita Falls and finally San Antonio. His grandfather, Park Street, was a precedent setting condemnation attorney, whose sense of justice and close friendship with Erle Stanley Gardner led him in the 1950’s to join the Court of Last Resort to bring justice to the wrongfully convicted. It is often said that Erle Stanley Gardner’s fictional lawyer, Perry Mason, was modeled after his grandfather, Park Street. The pioneering spirit of innovation so necessary to those early Texans and the sense of justice so precious to his grandfather are qualities that continue to exemplify Mr. Robinson’s legal practice today.
Even before starting law school, Jim had achieved a brilliant academic career. He was a National Merit Scholar and an awardee of numerous other scholarships and fellowships. At Trinity University he earned two B.A. degrees and was the only student in his class admitted to Phi Beta Kappa as a junior. He was awarded a Master’s degree in Chinese History and a Competency Certificate in Mandarin Chinese from the University of Minnesota, before returning to Texas to study law at the University of Texas–School of Law, from which he graduated in 1992. He passed the Texas Bar and began practicing law that same year.
Prior to forming his own firm, Mr. Robinson practiced in the San Antonio office of the international law firm, Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, and in the prestigious boutique Austin firm of Skelton & Woody. On March 1, 2003 Jim formed his own practice which evolved in 2009 into Robinson & Associates, PLLC. Jim prefers the intense focus and hands-on role of working with business as, in effect, their general counsel, developing long-term relationships with his clients, dealing with all their legal issues as they arise. He enjoys the long view of serving businesses’ interests as they grow and helping them expand through mergers and acquisitions and by other means. Jim balances this closeness and familiarity with his client’s legal issues by maintaining a roster of expert and experienced attorneys the Robinson firm utilizes on a project basis to achieve complete flexibility in the firm’s work load capacity and to ensure that every matter is appropriately staffed at the most reasonable rates.
During his career, Jim has had the opportunity to represent clients in a wide range of legal matters, encompassing transactional, litigation, bankruptcy and regulatory issues, in venues throughout the State of Texas, the United States, the United Kingdom and elsewhere. Jim has developed particular expertise in the representation of smaller and medium-sized businesses in capital formation, mergers and acquisitions, commercial litigation and general risk management, often acting as an outsourced general counsel. Jim also advises some of the largest and best known investment banks in the country as to the impact of high-profile litigation and statutory and regulatory changes on their business and their deals. Jim’s practice regularly takes him throughout the State of Texas, the United States, the United Kingdom and other foreign jurisdictions.
In addition to providing outstanding legal representation, Jim enjoys being involved in community. Jim is active in a number of conservation related endeavors. He co-founded a successful charity to reduce overfishing in Texas nearshore waters and has sat or now sits on a number of advisory committees for both the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission. Jim is fortunate to be married to a thoughtful, caring, beautiful and vivacious woman. They spend much of their time traveling, gardening, fishing and simply enjoying each others’ company.
