·        Francis v. Key Surgical, 1:20-3847 (N.D. Ga.). Lead counsel for patent owners in breach-of-contract action relating to exclusive license agreement.

·        Resideo Technologies and Central Security Group – Nationwide v. Ubiquitous Connectivity, IPR2019-01335, -01336, -01609, and -01610. Lead counsel for patent owner in four IPR proceedings.

·        POWERbahn v. Foundation Fitness, 1:17-2965 and 1:19-1678 (N.D. Ga.). Representing technology innovator in asserting patents related to control systems for exercise equipment that better simulate real-life athletic conditions.

·        Zipit Wireless v. LG Electronics, No. 2:20-1494 (D.N.J.). Representing small business in asserting patents relating to the use of emoticons in WiFi-capable handheld devices.

·        Google and LG v. Zipit Wireless, IPR2019-01567 and IPR2019-01568. Represent patent owner in two IPR proceedings.

·        SynchView Technologies v. Comcast, ARRIS, Technicolor, et al. (various courts). Representing SynchView in asserting patents relating to multi-tuner DVRs.

·        Unified Patents Inc. v. SynchView Technologies, LLC, IPR2019-00470. Successfully opposed institution of Unified Patents’ petition for inter partes review of SynchView’s patent.

Prior to joining Kent & Risley, Cortney was a partner at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, which he joined in 2005 after beginning his legal career at Frost Brown Todd in Louisville, Kentucky.
