Brett has over 20 years of experience representing businesses and individuals in matters involving state and local tax. He represents clients before the Tennessee Department of Revenue and local taxing authorities and in litigation at the trial and appellate levels. Brett advises clients on a broad range of state and local taxes, including sales and use tax, corporate franchise and income taxes, property tax, and business/gross receipts taxes.

Brett’s range of experience spans diverse industries including cable, telecom, manufacturing, automotive, transportation, retail and computer software/cloud computing.

Brett is also involved in the development of state tax policy through his chair position on the NFIB-Tennessee Tax Committee. In this role, Brett often testifies in front of the General Assembly on state tax policy matters. He is currently championing an effort for legislation expanding the scope of Tennessee’s tax refund statutes.

In addition to state and local tax, Brett routinely represents businesses, nonprofits and individuals on federal tax planning, audit defense, and Tax Court litigation.

Brett also assists businesses with tax-related business disputes and collections matters.
