Called to the BC bar in 1980, Leonard first attended Malaspina College and graduated from the University of Victoria in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Leonard went on to complete his Law Degree from the University of British Columbia Law School in 1979 and then to article with the memorable Nanaimo firm of Strongitharm Currie and Company. A strong believer in public service, Leonard supports numerous local community charities and public events. Leonard was previously the Chair of United Way, President of the Mid-Island Consumer Co-Op, and President of the Nanaimo Branch of Planned Parenthood. Leonard has been Mayor of Nanaimo from 2018 to present.
